Rodney A. Harvey, President & CEO
Mr. Harvey began his extensive insurance career in 1973. Rodney was originally employed as a multi-line property and casualty underwriter at INA (now CIGNA). He held similar senior underwriter positions at Allstate, Atlantic Mutual and AIG. Mr. Harvey received his Bachelor of Arts from Northwestern University and his Masters in Business Administration from Keller Graduate School of Management.
In 1978, Rodney entered the brokerage community working as a marketing representative for Nordstrom Agency, a national brokerage firm. After three months, Mr. Harvey was moved to the risk management agency division and placed in charge of a then statewide program for nonprofit organizations. Mr. Harvey was responsible for underwriting, marketing, reinsurance and direct sales activities. The program was the First Non-Profit Risk Pooling Trust (now First Non-profit Mutual).
Mr. Harvey was the primary sales agent and sold, over a three year period, more than 200 nonprofit accounts, including some of the largest nonprofits in Illinois, such as the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, The Museum of Science and Industry, the Chicago Association of Retarded Citizens, Chicago Youth Centers and many more.......
Mr. Harvey assumed the presidency of the Management company of First Trust and expanded the program nationwide with the use of Great American Insurance Co. Additionally, Rodney developed and managed the field underwriting of a program with Nonprofits Insurance Exchange (now Riverport Insurance Co.). Rodney retained some direct sales activity on larger accounts and was the producer of 20 years for the YMCA of Chicago, perhaps the largest social service organization in Chicago.
In 1998, Mr. Harvey assumed the presidency of Ze/USI, which was a joint venture between Zurich Financial and USI, one of the nation's largest insurance brokers. In a period of less than five years, Rodney grew Ze/USI into a $25 million company with over 600 accounts.
Rodney, in the words of one insurance executive, "has tremendous stature in the nonprofit insurance community" and was complimented on his contribution to nonprofit insurance by the former Director of Insurance for the State of Illinois. Rodney has written widely on the subject of insurance and has been quoted by the trade press. Additionally, he has spoken to industry associations, including CPCU, on the subject of insuring nonprofits.
Mr. Harvey's greatest professional legacy lies in the fact that First Non Profit, Great American's Human Services Division, Riverports and Ze/USI's programs are still in operation due to his initial successful efforts. The total volume of these operations is over $200 million.
Rodney is very active in nonprofit endeavors, both as a volunteer and as a financial contributor. Rodney has been and continues to be a hands-on member of several nonprofit Boards.
